Field types: links, ratings, date ranges and formulas

Every custom field type, including Link, Email, Phone, Percent, Rating, Date range and Formula.

Pick a type when you add a field under Fields in the project header. The basics (Text, Number, Currency, Date, Dropdown, Multi-select, Checkbox and Person) are covered in Custom fields. This page covers the rest.

TypeWhat it showsGood for
Link (URL)The site's name (for example figma.com). Click to open it in a new tab.Designs, docs, pull requests, client sites.
EmailThe address. Click to write an email.Client or vendor contacts.
PhoneThe number. Click (or tap on a phone) to call.Contacts you call back.
PercentA small progress bar and the value, like 40%.Progress, probability, discount.
RatingOne to five stars.Priority score, effort, satisfaction.
Date rangeStart and end, like Oct 3 – Oct 9.Campaign windows, travel, a sprint.
FormulaA number calculated from the task's other number fields.Remaining budget, cost from hours, totals.

Fill them in

  • Link, Email, Phone: click the cell and type. You can leave out https://; it's added for you. Something that isn't a link, address or number is marked red and isn't saved; press Esc to cancel.
  • Percent: type a number from 0 to 100.
  • Rating: click a star. Click the same star again to clear the rating.
  • Date range: pick a start and an end. The end can't be before the start; leave it empty for a one-day range.

Formulas

A Formula field works out its value from other fields of the same task, so you never type it. Write the formula when you add the field; click a field name under Insert to add it.

FormulaResult
{Budget} - {Spent}What's left of the budget.
{Hours} * 75Cost at 75 per hour.
round({Done} / {Total} * 100, 1)Percent done, one decimal.
max({Estimate}, {Actual})The larger of two numbers.
  • Put field names in braces: {Budget}. Names aren't case-sensitive.
  • Use Number, Currency, Percent, Rating and other Formula fields.
  • Operators: + - * / and brackets. Functions: round(x, digits), min(a, b, …), max(a, b, …), abs(x).
  • Empty fields count as 0. When every field in the formula is empty, the result is empty too.
  • Choose Show as Number, Currency (with the currency) or Percent.

If a formula can't be worked out (for example dividing by zero, or a field it uses was renamed or deleted), the cell shows —. Hover it to see why, then fix the formula in Fields.

Sort and filter

In Table view you can sort by any of these fields. Ratings and percentages sort by value, date ranges by their start date, and formulas by their result.
