Microsoft 365: Office files and Outlook calendar

Create Word, Excel and PowerPoint files from a task, and keep your tasks in your Outlook calendar both ways.

Connect your Microsoft account to create Office files right from a task and to see your tasks in your Outlook calendar. Each person connects their own account, in each workspace.

Connect your Microsoft account

  1. 1Go to Settings and find Microsoft 365.
  2. 2Click Connect Microsoft 365 and sign in with your work, school or personal Microsoft account.
  3. 3Accept the permissions. You come back to JinkoUp with the card showing Connected.

JinkoUp asks for: your basic profile (to show which account is connected), your OneDrive files (to create Office files), your calendars (for Outlook sync), your mailbox settings (only to read your Outlook time zone), and offline access (so the daily sync works while you're away). Your Microsoft tokens are stored encrypted and never shown in the browser.

If your organization requires admin approval for new apps, Microsoft shows a Need admin approval screen. Ask your Microsoft 365 admin to grant consent to the JinkoUp app.

Create a Word, Excel or PowerPoint file from a task

  1. 1Open a task and find New below the linked files.
  2. 2Click Word, Excel or PowerPoint.
  3. 3JinkoUp creates the file in your OneDrive under JinkoUp / <project name>, named after the task, links it to the task and opens it in Office for the web in a new tab.

The file shows with the task's other linked files, with a preview when Microsoft allows one. To work on it together, use Share in Office: Microsoft handles who can open it and real-time co-editing. People without access to your OneDrive see the link but need you to share the file.

If you haven't connected yet, the task shows Connect Microsoft 365 instead, and brings you back to the task afterwards.

Outlook calendar sync

Turn on Outlook calendar sync in the Microsoft 365 card. JinkoUp then keeps your Outlook calendar and your tasks in step:

  • Every open task assigned to you with a due date becomes an all-day event on that day, in the JinkoUp category, shown as free time. The event links back to the task.
  • Renaming a task or changing its due date updates the event.
  • Completing, unassigning or deleting a task (or removing its due date) removes the event.
  • Drag the event to another day in Outlook and the task's due date moves with it. If the task also changed in JinkoUp since the last sync, JinkoUp's version wins.
  • Deleting the event in Outlook doesn't change the task: the event comes back on the next sync while the task is open. Complete or unassign the task instead.

Tasks due more than 60 days ago aren't added. Turning sync off removes the events JinkoUp added; your own events are never touched.

When it syncs

Turning sync on runs the first sync straight away. After that, JinkoUp syncs once a day automatically, and you can click Sync now in Settings at any time. Very large calendars may take a couple of syncs to catch up.

On JinkoUp's current hosting plan the automatic sync runs daily. On Vercel Pro it can run every 15 minutes: change the /api/cron/outlook schedule in vercel.json to */15 * * * *. The sync is safe to run as often as you like.

Disconnect

Click Disconnect in the Microsoft 365 card. JinkoUp asks whether to remove the task events it added to your Outlook calendar. Files already linked to tasks stay linked and stay in your OneDrive. To fully remove JinkoUp's access, also remove it from your Microsoft account's apps page (myapps.microsoft.com for work accounts, account.live.com/consent/Manage for personal ones).

Set up Microsoft 365 (admins)

Until it's set up, the card in Settings says Not set up on this server yet and the task panel hides the Office buttons. Whoever runs JinkoUp registers one app in Microsoft Entra ID (it works for every Microsoft account, in any organization):

  1. 1Open the Azure portal (portal.azure.com) → Microsoft Entra ID → App registrations → New registration.
  2. 2Name: JinkoUp. Supported account types: Accounts in any organizational directory and personal Microsoft accounts.
  3. 3Redirect URI: platform Web, https://jinkoup.com/api/microsoft/callback (use your own address if you host JinkoUp elsewhere; add http://localhost:3000/api/microsoft/callback for local development). Click Register.
  4. 4Copy the Application (client) ID from the Overview page.
  5. 5API permissions → Add a permission → Microsoft Graph → Delegated permissions: offline_access, User.Read, Files.ReadWrite, Calendars.ReadWrite and MailboxSettings.Read. Click Add permissions. (Optionally Grant admin consent for your own organization.)
  6. 6Certificates & secrets → New client secret. Copy the secret's Value right away (it's shown once). Note when it expires and set a reminder to replace it.
  7. 7In Vercel → the project → Settings → Environment Variables, add MICROSOFT_CLIENT_ID (the client ID) and MICROSOFT_CLIENT_SECRET (the secret value) for Production, then redeploy. APP_ENCRYPTION_KEY (at least 32 characters) must also be set, as for the other connectors.

When the client secret expires, connecting and syncing stop working. Create a new secret in the Azure portal, update MICROSOFT_CLIENT_SECRET in Vercel and redeploy. People don't need to reconnect.

Organizations that block user consent can approve JinkoUp once for everyone: in their own Entra admin center, Enterprise applications → JinkoUp → Permissions → Grant admin consent. The daily sync is the /api/cron/outlook job in vercel.json (protected by CRON_SECRET).
